About Me
- May 2nd, 2009

Hi, my name is Jessica, welcome to PlasticWater.org, where my brain goes on the interwebs. For anyone who may not know me already, I’m a music student from Lansing, Michigan, and I bartend at the oldest bar in town. I play alto saxophone, and a little piano, which I’m trying to get better at for composition’s sake. I started this blog without much sense of direction, much like everything else I start in my life, but I’m guessing there will be a considerable amount about music, sports, and drinks, because that’s what I know.
My favorite animals are penguins, snakes, bats, spiders, and turtles, and if an animal is ridiculous-looking or otherwise inherently silly, chances are I like that animal too. I wear almost exclusively black, not because I’m trying to make an anti-social statement, just because I like black. There’s nothing wrong with that, and no, I’m not going to a funeral. Yet. I won’t say that I enjoy art of ALL forms, because that would be lying. But I do try to give everything a chance, and if I don’t like something, I have a reason that I don’t like it. I love pickles, mac ‘n cheese, and crab rangoons, but not together.
Some of my favorite composers are Beethoven and Chopin, because I’m a believer in the Romantic period and making music that comes from within as opposed to a recipe. I suppose it also, then, makes sense that I love soul music. Wilson Pickett once said, “Soul aint nothing but a feeling.” I like that attitude. Most of the music I make has that mentality. I just wish I could sing like Ray Charles.
If you’re wondering what the name “Plastic Water” means, don’t bother. I’m more interested in how words feel rather than what they mean, and I think the name “Plastic Water” feels just right. It came from a night at work when we were running out of glasses and began serving water in plastic cups, and one customer approached me and asked for “one of those little plastic waters.” Thus, my blog was born.
So that’s all for now, have a look around and if you like something I have to say, or if you hate something I have to say, feel free to drop me a note, I’d love to hear from you!
